Style Guide: How to Apply and Wear Your New Patches

Got your hands on a new embroidered patch from Embroidery Taiss? Whether you chose a striking gothic heart, a detailed insect, or a bold cyberpunk back piece, adding patches is the ultimate way to customize your jacket, bag, or jeans and make your style truly unique.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to easily apply and secure your iron-on patches so they stay on for good!

Method 1: Iron-On Application (Quick & Easy)

Most of our patches come with a heat-seal backing, making application super straightforward.

  1. Prep Your Garment: Lay your jacket, vest, or bag flat on an ironing board or a hard, heat-resistant surface. Ensure the fabric is clean and dry.

  2. Position the Patch: Place the patch on your garment exactly where you want it. Make sure it isn't crooked and lies flat against the fabric.

  3. Protect the Fabric: Place a thin pressing cloth (like a cotton handkerchief or parchment paper) directly over the patch. This protects the embroidery threads and the fabric from direct high heat.

  4. Heat & Press:

    • Set your iron to the cotton/high heat setting (turn off steam).

    • Press the iron firmly straight down on top of the patch with heavy pressure for 30 to 45 seconds.

    • Avoid moving the iron back and forth, as this can shift the patch's position.

  5. Cool Down & Check: Lift the iron and the protective cloth, then let it cool completely. Try gently lifting the edges of the patch with your fingernail. If the edges lift up, repeat the pressing step for another 15–30 seconds.

Method 2: Extra Security (Sewing / Stitching)

While iron-on backing is strong, heavy-wear items like biker jackets, denim vests, or items that go through frequent machine washing benefit greatly from extra reinforcement.

  • The Pro Touch: Once ironed in place, take a needle and thread matching the border color of the patch and run a few simple stitches or a whip stitch around the edges. This guarantees your patch will withstand any adventure, mosh pit, or weather condition!

Care Tips for Your Custom Gear

  • Washing: Turn your garment inside out before washing.

  • Water Temperature: Wash on a gentle, cold cycle (up to 30°C / 85°F). Avoid harsh bleach.

  • Drying: Air-drying is always best for embroidered items. If using a tumble dryer, use low heat. Never iron directly over the surface of the patch after it's attached.
